About Me
I’m a Has-Been Artist
I love real estate and working with clients and customers but I also have a passion for art. I am known in the local area as somewhat of a has-been artist lurking in the shadow of my big sister, Louise (Bootsie) Booth, a well known local artist, who we lost in 2005. We both took art under Mr. Sidney King, a professional artist who lived in Bowling Green, Virginia. I’d like to share some of my sister’s pictures with you. Some of you may recognize a few, or may even have one hanging in your home.

I Got the Nerve to go on my Own ... And Built Anchor Realty in the Heart of Callao
I was working out of my car and in an old trailer where the Anchor Realty building is now located as we all struggled through the tough years starting in 1982. Eventually I was blessed with some great sellers and buyers and through them I earned some $$$. Things were finally looking up and I realized I needed a nicer place for my customers and clients, as well as my Realtor peers. The bank and I built the Anchor Office below where the old trailer used to be. It rained, snowed, and stormed the whole time it was under construction, but it was finally finished in 1989.
Back to Art....
My first art show was in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and much to my surprise folks actually paid me money for my paintings. And, the Chamber of Commerce was kind enough to award me a few ribbons too. This was a great time in my life since my sister and cousin, and a few friends eventually joined me at many other shows. We had some great times together. I plan to try painting again some day.
My Children
My daughter, Janice, who is still a bundle of joy and full of energy even at her mature age of ………….. Well anyway, she is still lots of fun and full of new ideas and loves an adventure. She appreciates art too…. her love is primitive art and antiques. She is married to Mike King, contractor, who is presently building a log siding cabin with his son, Kyle, and crew. He is very proud of this home and looks forward to showing it off once it is finished. He is employed by the State at this time but plans to go full time when he retires. Janice enjoys looking for antiques and working along with her husband, Mike, fixing up older homes and building new ones. She is a very talented young lady. My son, Dan, is more relaxed than his sister and always analyzes a situation before making a decision. His character and control is basically the same whether it is notifying someone that a house is on fire or deciding which baby puppy to pick and take home. In any event, his level headed manner will get the job done properly. His artistic ability is creating nautical and primitive items by welding iron and he also has landscape knowledge, has a CDL license, and is a great handyman. Dan enjoys playing jokes on family members and friends and is always ready for a good laugh. The newest addition to the family is Chase, Dan's Collie dog, who was a rescue Collie. Chase is one of a kind and can capture your heart in a minute. |
My Grandsons
My grandson, Kyle, is a pretty cool young man who at 17 purchased an old major fixer-upper farm house on almost 3 acres. He is married to Maggie now and together they continue to work on their farm house which is turning out to be a unique country home loaded with charm. Kyle has many talents and is a hard worker and works part time with his Dad, Mike, who is a contractor. Kyle has a CDL license, and is interested in learning more about excavating and landscaping. He has many ideas for the future. No doubt, he will someday own his own business since he is gaining experience in many fields as a young man. My grandson, Daniel, is also a talented young man and relates more to automotive repair, computers, and music. He has electrical background and was chosen by the Northern Neck Vocational Center to enter the State Leadership Conference where he took first place in electricity. Daniel was also given a Principals Aware for Student of the year in Residential Wiring and was recognized for his perfect attendance. He is presently studying computer technology and he will more than likely excel in this field also. |
